Why We No Longer Search for the Tribe

All these years, my designs and my writing existed solely to serve the visions of others. Through my words, I traversed the Bourse de Commerce in Paris, the Prada Rong Zhai in Shanghai, and the MUMOK in Vienna... crafting descriptions for interior designs that depicted an aspired foreign living space.

Until things came to a pause. Looking back at the exquisite rhetoric I had once penned, one question refused to leave my mind: "I have been naming everyone else’s homes—but where is mine?"

Today, I build my own tribe, not the kind of 'Amis' packaged in government propaganda, riddled with stereotypes, and commodified for consumption. The patriarchal constraints of Mandarin alienate me; I am tired of forced expression through a linguistic framework that doesn't fit my identity

Maison Amis was born.

A pun that can only be grasped by those who truly understand. Because there is no written record, the Amis language is never fixed or static. It breaks free from the shackles of paper.

When people read it, they sense a certain Parisian elegance and hospitality—“Maison Amis” (House of Friends), a quintessential European lifestyle.

But what I am truly saying is: Amis. It is my bloodline; it is Pangcah.

In this digital space, I no longer use Mandarin, Patriarchal Language as the sole bridge for communication.

I use the eye of a designer and my "portable roots"—traveling with the tribe, reclaiming the rhythms of our mother tongue, and reconstructing my luma (home).

I no longer need to search the map to find the tribe. When I write, I create.

Nous ne cherchons plus la tribu, nous SOMMES la tribu.
